MostaTech has announced further miniaturization of two models in its line of miniature fiber optic gyro (FOG) inertial measurement units (IMUs) – the U183 and U123D.
The further miniaturization is a response to the rising demand for SWaP-optimized inertial products designed for unmanned systems, including those in marine environments, such as UAVs, USVs, UUVs, and ROVs.
The company’s U183 FOG IMU now has dimensions of ∅46×100 mm, reduced from its previous size of ∅46×111 mm, while the U123D has been downsized to ∅40×90 mm from ∅40×100 mm.
These size reductions enhance their adaptability for applications with strict spatial and design limitations.
Magnetic Immunity
Substantial improvements in magnetic immunity have also been achieved, increasing the accuracy of both FOG IMUs.
Previously, the U123D and U183 units were available with either external or internal magnetic shielding. The newest versions now incorporate both internal and external shielding, providing two levels of magnetic resistance: 0.3°/h/Gauss with single shielding and 0.01°/h/Gauss with dual shielding.
This refined design ensures reliable performance even in high magnetic field environments.
The U Series FOG IMUs offer low-noise operation, compact size, lightweight structure, and efficient power usage. These IMUs contain three of MostaTech’s smallest fiber optic gyros along with three MEMS/pendulum accelerometers.
