Kraken Robotics Inc. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SEFINE SISAM to advance the integration of high-resolution sonar technology into unmanned maritime platforms.
Signed during the SAHA exposition in Türkiye, the agreement between the Canadian subsea intelligence company and the Strategic Unmanned Systems Research Center (SISAM) focuses on technical collaboration for defense applications. Under the terms of the memorandum, Kraken will work with SISAM to integrate its KATFISH system into mission planning software while developing automatic target recognition (ATR) capabilities specifically for Kraken Synthetic Aperture Sonar.
The partnership builds upon a recent operational validation conducted off the coast of İstanbul. During that demonstration, Kraken’s KATFISH and unmanned surface vessel (USV) launch and recovery system were successfully deployed from SEFINE’s RD-22 USV. The exercise confirmed the ability to perform rapid, high-resolution detection and classification of mine-like objects and critical underwater infrastructure in an active environment.
“We’re pleased to continue our work with SEFINE following a successful at-sea demonstration earlier this year,” said Bernard Mills, Executive Vice President of Defence at Kraken Robotics. “This partnership poises us to rapidly develop and deliver relevant capability in a region that combines industrial excellence and operational need. Together, we are advancing fully integrated, autonomous solutions for seabed warfare and mine countermeasures—enhancing the speed, accuracy, and efficiency of maritime security operations.”
Kraken Robotics specializes in transforming subsea intelligence through the application of 3D imaging sensors, robotic systems, and power solutions such as pressure-tolerant batteries for underwater vehicles. The company’s synthetic aperture sonar and LiDAR systems provide high-resolution data utilized in ocean safety, geology, and infrastructure monitoring. Through this collaboration, the organizations aim to enhance the efficiency of maritime security operations by providing sophisticated, autonomous tools for underwater defense and sub-bottom imaging.
