Industry-Leading Underwater Imaging and Power Solutions for Demanding Professional Survey Applications

Kraken Robotics is an industry-leading developer of underwater imaging and power solutions that serve the most demanding of professional survey applications. Our ultra-high-resolution Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) technologies empower users to explore the world’s oceans safely, efficiently and sustainably, and are deployed around the world for a diverse range of applications including oil and gas, offshore energy, oceanography, defense and more.

In addition to our off-the-shelf products, we also offer Robotics as a Service (RaaS) packages, allowing customers to take advantage of the benefits of our subsea survey and imaging capabilities without significant investment into new equipment.

Kraken SAS

High resolution modular miniature synthetic aperture sonar

Kraken SAS

Kraken SAS is a revolutionary miniature interferometric synthetic aperture sonar system that delivers industry-leading constant high resolution across the entire swath out to ranges of 200 meters per side, along with simultaneous bathymetry. Featuring dual-frequency transducers for nadir gap reduction, the system offers modular array capabilities with length options of 60, 120, and 180 cm, allowing it to be integrated into platforms of almost any size.

Kraken MINSASThe system processes raw sonar data into SAS tiles in real time, and stores these on the internal hard drive or optional removable data pod. This capability allows for embedded Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) and data exfiltration capabilities of processed SAS data and contacts, and significantly reduces post-mission analysis requirements.

Kraken SAS provides surveyors with impressive boosts in efficiency, and can reduce missions durations by up to three times.

Kraken MP-SAS

SWaP-optimized synthetic aperture sonar system for smaller platforms

Kraken MP-SAS

Kraken MP-SAS (Man-Portable Synthetic Aperture Sonar) provides revolutionary imaging capabilities for smaller host platforms such as man-portable UUVs, offering a swath of up to 100m per side at 2 x 2cm resolution. Based on Kraken SAS technology and featuring lightweight transducers and other SWaP optimizations, MP-SAS empowers underwater vehicles that were previously unable to host SAS survey equipment.

Kraken Man-Portable Synthetic Aperture SonarA modular payload section allows MP-SAS to be retrofitted to small subsea vehicles with diameters from 7.5 to 9″, and enables easy in-field installation without the need for recalibration. The proven solution has been successfully integrated into 20+ year old vehicles, providing a significant capability upgrade at a fraction of the cost of a new system.

KATFISH™

SAS towfish with industry-leading resolution & coverage rates

Kraken Robotics Katfish

KATFISH™ is an actively stabilized SAS towfish that provides simultaneous sonar and 3D bathymetry data with industry-leading resolution and coverage rates. The high-speed platform can operate at up to 10 knots, ensuring reduced survey times and operating costs compared to slower-moving platforms.

KATFISH Synthetic Aperture Sonar TowfishKATFISH™ delivers post-processed data at an unparalleled 2 cm x 2 cm resolution. 3 x 3 cm real-time SAS imagery can be viewed on board the towing vessel, or sent remotely to a mothership or shore-based command station. The platform utilizes articulated tailfins and an intelligent autopilot to compensate for motion, ensuring the highest quality data.

KATFISH Synthetic Aperture Sonar imaging

KATFISH™ can be rapidly deployed from a variety of crewed or uncrewed vessels of opportunity with the use of an autonomous LARS (launch and recovery system). It is ideal for a variety of civilian and defense applications including pipeline inspection, environmental monitoring, mine countermeasures and more.

SeaPower™ Batteries

Scalable high energy density subsea batteries for enhanced mission endurance

SeaPower Pressure Neutral BatteriesOur SeaPower™ rechargeable batteries offer market-leading energy density and endurance, and are designed as a modular and scalable capability that can be customized to meet the needs of a variety of platforms.

The advanced batteries use pressure-tolerant Li-ion pouch cells embedded in a silicon polymer matrix, eliminating the need for housings or oil compensation.

Multiple batteries can be connected together to form power banks of up to 5 MW, and the fast charger allows up to nine batteries to be recharged in parallel, vastly reducing mission downtime.

SeaPower Pressure Tolerant Subsea Batteries

Rated to depths of down to 10,000m, SeaPower™ batteries are expertly engineered and tested for maximum safety and reliability at cell, battery, and system levels, and are compliant with U.S. Navy and maritime safety and transportation standards.

Services

Subsea LiDAR Surveys

3D at Depth SL4 Subsea LiDAR solutionOur 3D at Depth subsidiary offers a range of advanced underwater LiDAR solutions that enable high-resolution 3D point cloud data capture and detailed modelling of underwater assets and environments. Ideal for a variety of sectors including offshore energy, environmental research, construction, and underwater archaeology, 3D at Depth services include:

  • In-house expert custom product development with cutting-edge optical design, as well as control and data processing software
  • Underwater 3D data acquisition with the highest level of detail and accuracy
  • Dimensional control and ultra-accurate digital twinning of subsea assets
  • Data processing, analysis, and deliverables including 3D models, mesh surfaces, DTMs, contour maps, and volumetric calculations

Sub-Bottom Imaging

Kraken Sub-Bottom ImagingOur Sub-Bottom Imager (SBI) uses state-of-the-art beamforming SAS arrays to image up to 5 meters beneath the seabed with wide swaths, providing highly accurate 3D data that can be used to identify buried non-ferrous and magnetic objects, anomalies, geohazards, and stratigraphy for a wide range of applications including cable and pipeline assessment and unexploded ordnance (UXO) surveys.

The versatile system can be mounted on vessels for nearshore applications and work-class ROVs for deepsea requirements, as well as on our SeaKite towed vehicle for high-speed data collection.

Acoustic Coring

Kraken Acoustic CoringOur Acoustic Corer provides high-resolution 3D imaging of the sub-seabed to depths exceeding 50 meters, enabling accurate visualization of stratigraphy layers and anomalies across the entire foundation footprint. It bridges the technology gap between cone penetrometer tests and narrow-focused boreholes, eliminating subjectivity from those localized data sets.

The Acoustic Corer is an ideal risk mitigation solution for:

  • Foundation locations
  • Jack-up punch through
  • Infrastructure decommissioning
  • Geotechnical ambiguity

Towed SAS Surveys

Kraken towed SAS survey packagesWe offer complete towed SAS survey packages using our KATFISH towfish platform, delivering higher quality data with unmatched seafloor resolution and wider swaths and faster speeds than towed sidescan sonar. The system allows additional geophysical sensors to be integrated alongside the SAS.

All results are interpreted by Kraken sonar experts, ensuring accurate seabed classification and target discrimination as well as faster identification of risks. Our surveys are ideal for a wide variety of use cases, including:

  • Pre- and Post-Construction Survey – comprehensive site clearance and identification of cable and infrastructure exposures
  • Underwater Infrastructure Inspection – seabed change detection, context along pipeline and cable routes, and small target identification
  • Mine Countermeasures – accurate target identification and discrimination with secure data management and transfer
