This comprehensive five-day program is designed to help participants conduct multibeam surveys from start to finish, providing experience with hardware and software operation, live data collection, and practical theory.
NORBIT’s course is geared toward both newcomers to the field and experienced professionals seeking to strengthen their capabilities. Over five days, attendees will work through the full multibeam survey workflow, covering mobilization, system verification, and data acquisition.
The curriculum includes sonar practical theory, such as acoustics and operational principles, along with GNSS and Inertial Navigation System (INS) theory and operation. Participants will also focus on multibeam installation, integration, and configuration, as well as patch and performance calibrations.
Survey planning, design, and coverage strategies form an additional part of the training, together with troubleshooting guidance addressing common errors and pitfalls.
Data processing is a major component, including importing data, generating bathymetric grids, data cleaning, and QA/QC methods. Advanced data processing topics, like backscatter and water-column data handling, are also incorporated. The course concludes with instruction on data management, exports, and producing final deliverables.
