Airmar Technology Corporation is a developer of impressive ultrasonic and acoustic sensing solutions, including transducers and rugged weather stations designed to serve a wide variety of scientific, commercial, and military use cases. Find out more >>

These applications include hydrographic and oceanographic surveying or mapping, inspection, fishing and aquaculture, both crewed and uncrewed marine vehicles (AUVs, ROVs) across commercial, military, or scientific vessels, and more.

The company’s hydrographic solutions can be split into transducers and acoustic sensors or altimeters. The transducers can be for side-scan sonar systems or for subsea survey and navigation, with most being customisable and offering a range of frequencies and depth ratings.

Airmar’s acoustic and altimeter technology largely consists of the EchoRange+ Smart Sensors, providing ultrasonic temperature and depth measurements through high-tech embedded microelectronics and digital signal processing. These can also come in miniature kits, designed for integration into subsea robotics such as ROVs and AUVs.

The company also designs technology specifically for environmental monitoring, notably its WeatherStation instruments. Designed unlike any other on the market, these multi-sensor solutions contain no moving parts yet provide both true and apparent wind direction and speed.

These WeatherStations are made for either stationary or mobile platforms, and built to be maintenance-free and reliable without reducing their ability to provide data than enhanced the decision-making capabilities of a vessel or platform’s crew. The central WeatherStations are:

  • The WeatherStation 200WX-IPX7: features ingress protection and is ideal for harsh, dynamic sea states.
  • The WeatherStation 220WXH: features a thermostatically-controlled heating system to remain reliable in ice-prone environments.
  • The WeatherStation 200WX: provides real-time accurate Dynamic true wing and weather data in a compact footprint.

All of the above instruments can deliver air temperature and wind chill, barometric pressure, relative humidity, rate-of-turn and pitch and roll data from three-axis gyros and accelerometers, position from GPS, and solid-state compasses.
