Airmar Technology Corporation has introduced its newest marine sensor, the DST820 Smart Multisensor, which brings full compliance with the UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act to the marine electronics market.
The new model, which will replace current DST810 offerings by June 1st, introduces an enhanced focus on onboard network security. To connect the sensor to an NMEA 2000 network, users scan a secure QR code and enter a one-time security password on a mobile device. Compliance with the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act — which took effect in 2024 and is anticipated to see global adoption — ensures consumer electronics maintain a safe and secure operating state during use.
Beyond security improvements, the company has updated the device’s functionality through the CAST app. The platform allows users to enable, disable, or adjust sensor update rates, including turning off depth readings, as well as streamline firmware updates and fault logging. The CAST app also functions as the official platform for reporting any security vulnerabilities.
Jennifer Matsis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at AIRMAR Technology, stated, “Our customers can continue to count on the exceptional performance from our DST820 Smart Sensor, which includes the Gen2 paddlewheel, the industry’s best-performing speed paddlewheel. Now, with PSTI compliance, they also get the added peace of mind that comes with enhanced device security.”
The latest generation of the sensor features improved power efficiency, operating with an NMEA 2000 Load Equivalency Number of 2, an improvement from the previous model’s rating of 3. It remains fully compatible with existing 2-inch thru-hull fittings, providing an easy upgrade path for current users. The device retains the Gen2 paddlewheel, which is considered the industry’s best-performing speed paddlewheel.
