Airmar’s 150WXRS WeatherStation® Instrument combines acoustic rainfall detection with integrated measurement of wind and key atmospheric conditions in a compact sensor package. Rain intensity, accumulation, and event duration are determined by measuring the impact energy of individual drops striking the instrument’s upper sensing surface. Because the patented rain sensor contains no moving collection mechanism, it avoids the emptying, cleaning, and debris-related blockage associated with conventional tipping-bucket, weighing, and similar precipitation gauges. The unit also measures apparent wind speed and direction ultrasonically, alongside air temperature, barometric pressure, and relative humidity.
Designed for low-maintenance environmental monitoring, the 150WXRS incorporates an internal compass for referencing wind measurements to magnetic north and GPS for time stamping and correction between magnetic and true north. Its rugged, compact, UV-stabilized housing contains no moving parts, helping maintain measurement availability while reducing routine servicing requirements. The combination of rainfall, wind, and atmospheric sensing within one instrument makes the WeatherStation suitable for marine and maritime installations requiring continuous local weather information.
