AML Oceanographic’s Sailfish software includes CastQC, a profile validation feature designed to help hydrographic surveyors assess and approve cast data more quickly.
The tool uses a dynamic or manually selected reference cast to support a more direct validation process for vertical profiles.
The development of CastQC was informed by feedback from a hydrographic expert who used Sailfish in real-world conditions. That input helped shape the feature around practical survey requirements, with particular attention given to reducing time lost during vertical profiling.
Hydrographic cast validation can involve repeated internal assessment and comparison with previous profiles. CastQC provides a click-and-go approach that allows new cast profiles to be reviewed against a reference cast within Sailfish.
Reviewing and Comparing Cast Data
CastQC enables users to assess, edit and approve newly collected cast profiles by comparing them with either a dynamic or manually set reference cast.
Individual data points can be removed during the review process, allowing users to immediately visualize the resulting cast quality.
Sailfish can display up to three casts at the same time for side-by-side comparison. This multi-cast display is optimized for performance.
Users can also choose whether the reference cast is managed dynamically or selected manually, depending on how they want to conduct the validation process.
Managing Cast Status and Export
Approval and rejection statuses remain consistent throughout the auditing process. Users can return to previous decisions and adjust the assigned status when required.
Once a cast has been validated and approved, it can be exported immediately for mission use.
Sailfish also includes industry-standard keyboard shortcuts intended to support faster workflows during cast review and validation.
By combining reference-based comparison, interactive data editing, persistent cast status, multi-cast display and export on approval, CastQC provides a structured method for handling hydrographic profile validation within Sailfish.
