Rugged Power Supplies and Converters for Marine & Naval Systems

Aegis Power Systems is a U.S.-based designer and manufacturer of rugged power electronics for marine and naval systems. For over 30 years, the company has developed AC-DC, DC-DC, DC-AC and bidirectional power-conversion solutions for a wide variety of applications including surface vessels, undersea equipment, marine electronics racks, and electric and hybrid propulsion.

The company’s offerings include standard commercial off-the-shelf products, modified-COTS configurations and fully custom systems. Many designs can be operated in parallel to increase available power or provide redundancy for critical onboard equipment.

Aegis Ship and Marine Power Supplies and Converters

Marine-grade power electronics for demanding ocean environments

Aegis has extensive experience with the electrical and environmental requirements that govern integration aboard ships and marine platforms. This includes MIL-STD-1399 shipboard power, MIL-STD-461 electromagnetic interference, MIL-STD-810 environmental conditions and MIL-STD-901 high-impact shock.

Available packaging includes open-frame, rackmount, slide-in and sealed enclosures. Convection, forced-air, baseplate and liquid-cooling options allow thermal performance to be matched to the installation, and anti-corrosive conformal coating can protect circuit boards against salt and splash. All Aegis products are manufactured in the United States.

Shipboard Power Supplies & Rectifiers

Shipboard electrical systems require stable conversion from vessel power to the DC voltages used by communications, control, sensing and other electronic equipment. Aegis supplies single-phase and three-phase AC-DC power supplies for naval and commercial marine installations, with scalable output, rugged packaging and application-specific electromagnetic and environmental protection.

BW2901

Compact AC-DC power conversion for naval electronics

BW2901 600W Naval Power SupplyThe BW2901 is a compact single-phase AC-DC power supply that converts 115 VAC input into a regulated 24 or 28 VDC output. Available in 300 or 600 W configurations, the unit provides conditioned power for communications, control, sensing and other integrated vessel electronics.

Current-sharing capability allows multiple supplies to be combined for higher output or redundancy. The rugged SWaP-optimized rectifier has been successfully fielded in naval applications and is designed to meet applicable portions of a range of MIL-spec standards.

NRA301

4.5 kW three-phase rectifier for shipboard power systems

NRA301 three-phase rectifier for shipboard power systemsThe NRA301 is a rugged three-phase AC-DC power supply for shipboard systems operating from 120/208 VAC, 60 Hz input. It provides three 28 VDC outputs with a combined capacity of 4.5 kW, plus a low-power 5 VDC output, enabling one unit to feed several onboard loads or distribution paths.

A typical power factor of 0.99 enables the rectifier to use the available AC supply efficiently. The design meets MIL-STD-1399B and applicable portions of MIL-STD-810F environmental and MIL-STD-461F EMI requirements.

Marine Electronics & Rackmount Power Systems

Marine electronics racks on board vessels and other platforms may combine processors, communications equipment, displays, sensor interfaces and control hardware, each with different voltage and current requirements. Aegis develops versatile chassis-mount and rackmount power systems with multiple outputs, redundancy and remote-monitoring options for naval and marine equipment installations.

CWA003

Redundant multi-output AC-DC power conversion for marine electronics racks

CWA003 AC-DC power conversion for marine electronicsThe CWA003 is a chassis-mount slide-in AC-DC power converter for VME electronics architectures. Operating from 115 VAC single-phase, 60 Hz input, it provides six DC outputs across 3.3, 5, 12 and 15 VDC rails, with a total rated output of approximately 2kW.

N+1 redundancy helps maintain power to critical rack equipment if an individual power module is unavailable. The forced-air-cooled unit is designed to applicable portions of MIL-STD-704 input, MIL-STD-810F vibration and shock and MIL-STD-461 EMI requirements for surface-ship applications.

VPX Power for Marine Computing & Sensor Systems

Aegis develops high-density VPX power cards that convert platform DC power into the regulated outputs required by processors, GPUs and other embedded computing hardware used in modular open architectures.

VPX2703UC500-SA

SOSA-aligned 3U VPX conversion for high-voltage DC architectures

VPX2703UC500-SA SOSA-aligned 3U VPX conversionThe VPX2703UC500-SA is a single-slot 3U VPX DC-DC power card aligned with the Sensor Open Systems Architecture technical standard. It accepts a filtered 270 VDC input and provides 12 VDC main and 3.3 VDC auxiliary outputs with up to 500 W of total power.

Efficiency of up to 92% and conduction-cooled packaging allow the unit to meet the power and thermal constraints of compact naval computing and sensor systems. A redundant IPMB bus and I2C functionality provide access to temperature, voltage, current and counter data, device identification and self-test results.

VPX283UC640-SA

Parallel-capable VPX power for high-performance naval computing

VPX283UC640-SA VPX power for high-performance naval computingThe VPX283UC640-SA is a 5HP single-slot DC-DC power card for modular systems operating from a nominal 28 VDC input. It supplies 12 VDC main and 3.3 VDC auxiliary outputs with up to 700 W of power, providing a high-density solution for mission computers, sensor processors and AI-enabled maritime systems.

Up to three cards can be operated in parallel for increased power or redundancy. The conformal-coated card delivers efficiency of up to 92%, is designed to meet applicable VITA 62 and VITA 48.2 conduction-cooled requirements, and includes redundant IPMB and I2C monitoring functionality.

Electric & Hybrid Marine Propulsion

Electric boats and hybrid vessels combine high-voltage batteries or DC buses with conventional low-voltage electronics, control systems and auxiliary loads. Bidirectional conversion allows energy to move seamlessly and reliably between these architectures as operating conditions and power-management priorities change.

EV7K5BDC

Bidirectional conversion between 600 and 28 VDC marine systems

EV7K5BDC bidirectional DC-DC power converterThe EV7K5BDC is a rugged bidirectional DC-DC power converter for transferring energy between 600 and 28 VDC electrical systems. Delivering 7.5 kW with efficiency of up to 96%, it provides an interface between a high-voltage battery or distribution bus and low-voltage marine electronics or auxiliary loads.

A liquid-cooled thermal design enables high power within a compact enclosed package. The IP67 housing, military-grade circular connectors and wide operating temperature make the unit ideal for demanding marine installations, and CAN bus 2.0 communications enable data exchange with vessel-level energy-management systems.

Subsea, ROV & Shore Power Conversion

Undersea vehicles, tethered ROVs, seabed instruments and subsea communications systems may require high-voltage transmission followed by local conversion to the lower voltages used by onboard electronics and payloads. Aegis can adapt its AC-DC and DC-DC building blocks for the inputs, outputs, enclosures, connectors and thermal architectures required by these applications.

Aegis’ technology is also ideal for shore-power converters, battery chargers and DC-bus conditioning systems used alongside vessels and marine equipment. Power-factor correction, parallel operation, redundant configurations and remote monitoring can be incorporated where required by the installation.

Modular & Custom Marine Power Engineering

Aegis’ modular development strategy enables the creation of specialized marine and naval power solutions that go beyond the capabilities of standard COTS products. Existing circuits and proven power-conversion modules can be combined or modified to create variations with platform-specific inputs, outputs, power ratings, communications and control features.

Customers can specify the required AC-DC, DC-DC, DC-AC or bidirectional architecture, along with form factor, connectors, monitoring, cooling method and environmental protection. Aegis can then recommend an existing product, modify a current design or develop a custom unit suited to the vessel, undersea system or shore installation.
