The U.S. Navy’s Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) has awarded Teledyne Webb Research, a subsidiary of Teledyne Marine, a contract valued at up to $51.1 million for the production and delivery of autonomous APEX profiling floats over a three-year ordering period.
Under the agreement, Teledyne Webb Research will manufacture and deliver APEX profiling floats built to meet specific contract requirements set by NAVOCEANO. Operating to depths of 2,000 meters, these autonomous systems provide unattended measurements of temperature, salinity, and pressure throughout the water column.
Designed to operate in remote and operationally complex environments, the profiling floats enable rapid ocean data acquisition. The systems support both air and surface deployment methods, including parachute-assisted launches from aircraft.
The award extends a 28-year history during which Teledyne Webb Research has supplied APEX floats to NAVOCEANO in support of oceanographic data collection for government, research, and operational customers. The agreement continues the company’s long-standing involvement in ocean observation through the development and manufacture of autonomous observing systems.
