ProteusCore™ software by Tocaro Blue helps marine electronics OEMs and interface developers integrate radar perception into modern navigation displays.
The ProteusCore™ Machine Learning (ML) software processes radar data and outputs ML classified and tracked detections that can be used within Multi-Function Displays (MFDs). In this way, ProteusCore can serve as a middleware layer between radar hardware and navigation user interfaces, supporting faster integration and a more application-focused development workflow.
For marine electronics OEMs, integrating radar into a modern multi-function display increasingly involves software that can interpret radar data before it reaches the user interface.
Modern boat buyers expect their MFD to behave more like a smartphone or smart TV than a traditional chart plotter. ProteusCore machine learning software offers tools for building smarter, simpler radar and navigation interfaces designed for the modern consumer.
Radar Processing for UI Integration
ProteusCore connects to radar and GPS hardware, processes incoming radar data, and outputs a stream of classified and tracked detections.
These detections can be ingested by companies developing navigation user interfaces, allowing ProteusCore to operate as a middleware layer between radar sensors and navigation display systems.
Seaward Automation provides one example of this approach. The company’s user interface ingests ProteusCore radar trackers and incorporates the classified detections into its user interface.
Target Tracking and Radar Visualization
ProteusCore includes machine learning capabilities designed to support dynamic radar target tracking, enabling developers to create visualizations that more accurately replicate the real-world.
Clutter Filtering and Data Fusion
Radar measures the distance to objects using electromagnetic waves and requires precise tuning of multiple settings to detect objects with accuracy. ProteusCore applies filtering to radar returns and includes machine learning-based Auto-Focus.
The system can also fuse radar data with other available information sources such as AIS, charts, and lists of lights, streaming real-time stable, reliable imaging of the radar-visible area. ProteusCore can also automatically reduce radar range when a vessel enters a narrow pass.
Configuration and Integration for Development Teams
Engineers can configure system functions using the ProteusCore Configuration Application, an HTML5 interface used to access ProteusCore functions. From this view, engineers can make changes to ProteusCore machine learning operations and radar settings.
