High-Performance MEMS-Based Inertial Sensing Solutions for Marine, Offshore & Underwater Applications

Tronics Microsystems, a subsidiary of TDK Corporation, is an industry-leading supplier of high-performance inertial sensing solutions for marine, offshore and underwater applications.

Based on cutting-edge MEMS technology, our sensors are ideal for enabling precision navigation and guidance, as well as for incorporation into higher-order systems such as IMUs, INS, and motion reference units.

All our manufacturing and production capabilities, including MEMS wafer fabrication, assembly, calibration and test, take place in-house at our sophisticated facilities in France. This allows us to not only adhere to strict standards of quality, but also to provide faster turnaround times and to more effectively respond to our customers’ needs. We are certified to EN 9100, ISO14001, ISO45001 and ISO50001 standards.

MEMS Inertial Sensors for Marine Navigation & Guidance, MRUs and VRUs

GYPRO®4300 Gyroscope

Single-axis digital MEMS gyroscope with ± 300 °/s input range

GYPRO4300 Single-axis digital MEMS gyroscopeGYPRO®4300 is a closed-loop MEMS gyroscope that is a digital and low-SWaP alternative to bulky and expensive tactical-grade FOG. Housed in a 12 x 12 mm hermetically sealed ceramic SMD package, it is available in three resonant frequency configurations, allowing designers to minimize mechanical cross-coupling when creating multi-axis systems.

The miniature gyro provides a 24-bit SPI interface for easy integration and features built-in temperature compensation and self-test capabilities to verify the device’s integrity. With excellent bias stability and vibration rejection, it is highly suited for stabilization and attitude control of marine vessels and platforms, as well as integration into IMUs and GNSS-aided inertial systems.

  • 0.4 °/h bias instability
  • 0.07 °/√hr Angular Random Walk
  • 0.5 °/h/g² vibration rejection
  • -40 to +85°C operating temperature range

GYPRO®4050 Gyroscope

Single-axis digital MEMS gyroscope with low noise & ±50 °/s input range

GYPRO4050 Single-axis digital MEMS gyroscopeThe GYPRO®4050 is a low-noise digital MEMS gyroscope with a ±50 °/s input range, offering the same low SWaP footprint, SPI interface and self-test capabilities as the GYPRO4300. Its enhanced performance, stability and high-precision angular rate measurement make it an excellent choice for MRUs, VRUs, IMUs and INS designed to serve marine applications such as heave compensation and dynamic positioning.

  • 0.2 °/h bias instability
  • 0.02 °/√hr Angular Random Walk
  • 1 °/h/g² vibration rejection
  • -40 to +85°C operating temperature range

AXO®305 Accelerometer

Single-axis digital MEMS accelerometer with low noise & ±5 g input range

AXO305 digital MEMS accelerometerThe AXO®305 is a low-noise single-axis MEMS accelerometer with a ±5 g input range, offering the same ultra-compact footprint, interface and self-test capabilities as the AXO®315. With excellent bias and scale factor repeatability characteristics, it is ideally suited for incorporation into MRUs and VRUs for vessel motion control and dynamic positioning, as well as inertial systems for AUV and ROV navigation.

  • 1 mg one-year composite bias repeatability
  • 20 μg/g² vibration rejection
  • 10 μg/√Hz noise density
  • -40 to +85°C operating temperature range

More information: AXO®305 Accelerometer

Applications

Thanks to their class-leading stability, reliability and repeatability, Tronics MEMS inertial sensors are the solutions of choice for a wide range of marine, maritime, and subsea use cases, including:

GNSS-assisted ship navigation

GNSS-aided navigation – complementing vessel GNSS and GPS systems with accurate inertial data, enhancing the robustness of the navigation outputs

AUV and ROV navigation & control

AUV and ROV navigation & control – providing critical data for orientation tracking and attitude control of underwater robotics, and enabling navigation in undersea environments where satellite signals cannot reach

vessel motion control

Vessel motion control – monitoring and compensating for roll, pitch and heave motions of vessels in demanding ocean conditions

Antenna and radar stabilization

Platform & antenna stabilization – ensuring stability and maintaining alignment for cranes, antennas, radars and cargo loading systems that may otherwise be affected by waves and heavy wind

Hydrography and bathymetry

Marine mapping & oceanographic surveying – enhancing accuracy and reducing motion-induced errors for mapping and surveying equipment on board vessels and underwater vehicles, including multibeam echosounders, DVLs, LiDAR scanners and cameras
