MetOcean Telematics is expanding and upgrading its Thornhill Drive facility in Dartmouth to unify its workforce and scale development capabilities across ocean technology, satellite communications, environmental monitoring, and defence applications.
Supported by a $900,000 repayable contribution from the Government of Canada through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program, the initiative brings a team of just over 100 personnel together under one roof. The funding was announced by MP Braedon Clark on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister responsible for ACOA.
At the core of the infrastructure project is a major expansion of engineering workspace and dedicated testing environments. The additional floor space provides engineering teams with the capacity required to design, develop, integrate, and validate next-generation data collection and communication technologies deployed in remote marine and terrestrial environments.
The modernization also addresses growing physical footprints required by larger systems such as NiKA and MASS. Expanding production and warehouse capacity provides the assembly, integration, movement, and storage space necessary to execute these programs alongside traditional product lines, while establishing scalable infrastructure for upcoming development cycles.
In addition to expanding engineering and fabrication areas, the project introduces facility-wide technological upgrades across operational, production, and support departments. The consolidated footprint is projected to create 10 new jobs and lower annual operating expenses by approximately $600,000, while accelerating product delivery cycles and technical collaboration.
“We’re seeing strong global demand for technologies that improve awareness and security underwater. Bringing our teams together under one roof will help us move faster, collaborate more effectively and continue developing advanced Canadian-made technologies here in Atlantic Canada. Support from ACOA is helping position MetOcean for long-term growth while strengthening our contribution to Canada’s defence and maritime security sectors,” said Tony Chedrawy, CEO of MetOcean Telematics.
