Pro-Oceanus has introduced the Solu-Blu™ CO₂ Exchange, a compact, low-power sensor designed to measure carbon dioxide dynamics between air and surface water across freshwater, coastal, and mobile monitoring applications.
The dual-purpose instrument measures the partial pressure of CO₂ (pCO₂) in both surface water and air through an underwater sensor paired with an AirLink intake system. Alternating measurements from the two environments enable surface flux calculations and provide real-time data output without the need for post-processing.
Designed for integration into space- and power-constrained platforms, the Solu-Blu CO₂ Exchange can be deployed on systems including drifter buoys, gliders, and autonomous surface vehicles. The compact unit measures one-fifth the size and operates on one-seventh the power of traditional high-accuracy air-sea CO₂ sensors, while incorporating an internal controller and 2GB flash memory data logger.
The sensor operates from 10–24 VDC with a power consumption of 0.84 W and provides serial RS-232 CSV ASCII data output. Calibrated using World Meteorological Organization traceable standards, the system offers an absolute accuracy of ±3% of maximum range, with equilibration times (t63) of three minutes in water and five seconds in air.
The Solu-Blu CO₂ Exchange is designed to support distributed monitoring networks, surface CO₂ flux studies, coastal zone measurements, autonomous vehicle transects, and Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (mCDR) measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) applications.
