Acoustic Beacons for AUV Recovery

Acoustic beacons, such as the ULB-350 and ULB-362PL, play a critical role in the tracking and recovery of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs). These beacons emit periodic acoustic signals that can be detected by surface vessels or divers using compatible tracking receivers. When installed on an AUV, an acoustic beacon supports accurate localization following mission completion, malfunction, or emergency scenarios where surfacing is delayed or not possible.

Key functions:

• Real-time tracking: Helps operators monitor an AUV’s position during missions.
• Emergency recovery: Enables rapid localization and recovery when GPS is unavailable or the vehicle cannot surface.

Acoustic Pingers & Transponders

The product range offers flexible capabilities to suit virtually any underwater marking or locating requirements, with options for different frequencies, activation methods, and battery life.  All units are engineered for longevity in harsh ocean environments, ensuring reduced lifetime operating costs.

Product Highlights:

ULB-350

The ULB-350 is a low-cost pinger that is ideal for marking subsea equipment and underwater sites at depths of up to 1200 meters. The compact unit is highly suited to size- and weight-constrained applications, and can emit continuous acoustic signals for up to 60 days on a single 9V battery, or on a programmed time delay for up to three months.

ULB-362PL (Power Loss)

The ULB-362PL (Power Loss) is a compact underwater location beacon that is ideal for installation on ROVs, AUVs and other subsea equipment. Designed for use at down to full ocean depths, it is available in 27kHz, 37kHz, and 45kHz frequencies, and can transmit acoustic signals for up to 90 days.

ATT-400

The ATT-400 is an easy-to-deploy acoustic transponder that can operate at depths of down to 1000 meters and features a battery life of up to six months. It can be interrogated by RJE acoustic receivers to provide range and bearing information from up to 750 meters away, and can also be programmed to operate as a free-running pinger.

Product Highlights:

PRS-275

The PRS-275 is a diver pinger receiver that is designed to track and locate any underwater 5 – 80 kHz acoustic beacon at depths of down to 200 meters, and can also be easily converted to a surface pinger receiver via a separate directional hydrophone and user-adjustable mast assembly. Location feedback is provided through a waterproof headset as well as via a signal strength meter.

VADR-6000M

The rugged VADR-6000M directional receiver is ideal for installation on ROVs and AUVs, allowing operators to track acoustic sound sources with frequencies from 8kHz to 45kHz. Operational at depths of down to 6000 meters, it provides accurate target range and bearing. When paired with the ATT-400, it can be used as an acoustic transponder interrogator, capable of location marking within 1 meter.
