SEAMOR Marine has announced its next-generation Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), the ORCA, which will be unveiled at Oceanology International 2026 in London.

Next-Generation ORCA Inspection-Class ROV to Debut at Oceanology International 2026

Based in Nanaimo, SEAMOR Marine has built an international reputation for developing inspection-class ROVs that balance power and stability with portability. These vehicles occupy a critical niche between small observation-class units and large work-class ROVs, serving sectors including offshore oil, search and rescue, military defense, and marine surveys.

The ORCA joins the company’s existing lineup of world-renowned models, which includes the Chinook, Steelhead, and Mako.

The new vehicle features a depth rating of up to 1000 meters and is stabilized by eight powerful thrusters that provide true 360-degree control. This maneuverability allows the platform to maintain a stable depth even when subjected to strong currents, providing a reliable base for a wide array of modular instrumentation. Compatible tools include multibeam sonar, LiDAR, grippers, manipulators, probes, Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) depth trackers, and Ultra-Short Baseline (USBL) positioning systems.

A primary focus of the design is the ability to adapt the hardware to specific mission needs. Nathan Johnston, the Product Development Team Lead behind the new model, emphasizes that the modular nature of the unit was an intentional design choice. “The ORCA offers a high degree of customizability,” Johnston shares. “The vehicle’s thruster configuration, the frame design, and the skid options have all been developed with the intention to scale this platform to whatever the mission requirements are.”

The ORCA will be on display for industry leaders and prospective clients at the booth of SEAMOR Marine’s global partner, Dockstr, during the London event.
