Impact Subsea’s ISS360 Imaging Sonar has been integrated into a customized remotely operated vehicle (ROV) developed by Bay Dynamics to support infrastructure inspections in New Zealand.
The integration includes a specifically engineered retractable mount designed for ease of use and transport while maintaining full sonar functionality during operations.
Bay Dynamics, a specialist in subsea system development and Impact Subsea distributor in New Zealand, created the BlueROV-C by adapting the Blue Robotics platform to meet the operational criteria specified by a regional council. The council required a compact, easily deployable ROV with high-resolution sonar imaging for inspecting critical water reservoirs that supply drinking water to local communities.

To fulfill this need, Bay Dynamics selected the ISS360 due to its high-resolution 360-degree imaging capabilities and compact form factor. A custom retractable mount was engineered to enable the sonar to be deployed or stowed without tools, using a simple knob mechanism. This solution ensured rapid setup and simplified transport, aligning with the project’s emphasis on minimal deployment time and ease of use.
Outcomes included a toolless mounting system designed specifically for the ISS360, improved operator efficiency, and successful field deployment with positive client feedback.
Quote from Bay Dynamics, “We designed the retractable ISS360 mount specifically for this project, it’s compact, completely toolless and works beautifully. The customer loves it.”
