In a recent subsea project in Saudi Arabian waters, Ashtead Technology was tasked with replacing a damaged 16 inch segment of pipeline, a high stakes operation where precision and real time data were critical to success. To meet these stringent requirements, Ashtead relied on advanced optical technology from Voyis, integrating the Discovery Stereo Camera into their workflow to ensure data driven confidence at every stage of the repair.
One of the key technical challenges of the operation was verifying the ovality of the pipeline at the designated cut locations. Ovality must be confirmed with high accuracy to guarantee a proper fit for mechanical connectors. Any deviation could compromise the integrity of the entire system. Capturing high resolution 8MP images, the system provided detailed spatial data for comprehensive 3D modeling. Following the removal of the pipeline’s protective coating using Ashtead Technology’s Coating Removal Tool, the Discovery Stereo Camera was deployed to carry out high precision measurements. Offshore data collection and processing were executed seamlessly, enabling technicians to verify critical metrics such as ovality on site.
