Hydroconsult, a specialist in Hydrographic and Geophysical Survey services, successfully deployed Impact Subsea’s ISA500 Echosounders to precisely position anchor piles in offshore infrastructure projects.
The work demanded high-precision, real-time data to guide the accurate installation of piles in complex subsea environments.
Project Challenge

Maintaining accurate placement of anchor piles underwater is essential for ensuring the durability and stability of offshore structures. Hydroconsult needed a dependable system that could deliver real-time positional feedback, maintain millimeter-level accuracy, and reduce the complexity of cabling and installation.
Chosen Solution: ISA500 Echosounder
To meet project requirements, Hydroconsult selected the ISA500 from Impact Subsea. The device was chosen for its precise 1mm measurement capability, compact size, and versatile communication features.
Performance & Results
Using subsea calipers, divers verified the ISA500 Echosounders’ accuracy at 1mm. With real-time graphical output via the EIVA Navi Pac software, operators were able to precisely monitor and control pile installation, boosting accuracy and efficiency.
System Configuration

Each pile was fitted with four ISA500 Echosounders mounted around its top, enabling continuous real-time data output throughout the installation process. The sensors transmitted this positioning data directly to the EIVA Navi Pac software interface, providing immediate and intuitive visual feedback. Communication between the sensors was handled via RS485 serial connection, allowing multiple devices to operate over a single screened twisted pair cable, significantly simplifying the system’s cabling.
Impact Subsea supplied a ready-to-integrate package designed for easy deployment. This included four ISA500 Echosounders, a four-way splice cable, cable reel, topside communications interface, and power supply, all configured to streamline the integration into Hydroconsult’s offshore operations.
Yann Vincenot, Hydroconsult Technical Manager, commented, “The system was very useful for realtime monitoring. Throughout the whole operation the system has been working fine with no interruptions.”
