Ocean Science Technology (OST) is pleased to announce the addition of UMag Solutions to our global supplier ecosystem. Their new supplier profile showcases a range of drone-agnostic magnetic sensing payloads and mission software designed for naval mine countermeasures (MCM), anti-submarine warfare (ASW), seabed surveillance and critical infrastructure protection.
UMag Solutions’ technology uses magnetic sensing to detect targets in conditions where optical and acoustic methods may face limitations, including turbid water and objects buried beneath sand or mud. Battle-proven since 2023, with more than 200 systems in operational use, the company’s payloads provide real-time detections with X, Y and Z positioning while keeping personnel out of hazardous environments.
Key products and capabilities from UMag Solutions include:
- V2Mag®: A high-sensitivity airborne magnetic solution for naval and land mine detection, UXO detection and harbour security. The drone-agnostic system features ultra-low 0.01 nT system noise, dual-quantum picoFiRe® technology and coverage rates of up to 12 hectares per hour.
- FastMag®: A 2.5 kg single-sensor quantum magnetic payload developed for high-speed ASW, open-sea naval mine detection and seabed surveillance. Operating at speeds of up to 120 km/h, FastMag® can cover up to 70 hectares per hour for MCM and 6,000 hectares per hour for ASW, with detection of average-sized submarines at stated depths of 250–500 metres.
- UMagMission®: An end-to-end software platform for planning, executing and analysing drone magnetic missions. The software provides automated real-time data processing, georeferenced live mapping and advanced target analysis, and is designed to make magnetic operations accessible to non-specialist users.
- Naval Mine Countermeasures: UMag Solutions’ technology can detect moored, bottom and buried naval mines in coastal waters and harbours, including very shallow areas. Its systems can be deployed from land or ships, with FastMag® extending coverage to high-speed, open-sea search missions.
- Anti-Submarine & Anti-UUV Warfare: Magnetic sensing enables the detection of submarines, AUVs, UUVs and other submerged targets, including moving targets, with detections reported in real time. The company’s high-speed payloads are designed to enable wide-area searches during a single mission.
- Harbour & Critical Infrastructure Protection: Repeat drone-based magnetic surveys can establish a baseline of harbour and seabed conditions, allowing new or changed magnetic targets to be identified and investigated.
UMag Solutions’ payloads are NATO STANAG 4817 compliant, designed to be resilient to jamming and spoofing, and compatible with a wide variety of unmanned aircraft. Working with more than 20 drone partners worldwide, the company integrates its sensing hardware and software with multirotor, helicopter and VTOL fixed-wing platforms for deployment from both land and ships.
