Forum Energy Technologies (FET) has launched a new remote control station designed to allow clients to safely operate Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) systems from any location.

FET Introduces Remote Control Station for Subsea ROV Operations

The station utilizes the ICE® Unity ROV control system, which was released in 2025, to facilitate remote operations, live streaming of survey data, and system monitoring. This monitoring capability includes FET Remote Support and automated updates.

The hardware package is available as an option with new systems or as an upgrade for existing systems running ICE® Unity. It includes FET Subsea advanced control chairs, Remote-Connect gateway enclosures, and VisualSoft’s video streamer and network player.

The remote stations offer increased flexibility and access to specialist expertise. This shift in operational logistics is expected to lower costs and improve overall safety for subsea missions. All new hardware for the system is manufactured and delivered from FET’s facility in Kirkbymoorside, UK.

Kevin Taylor, Vice President, Operations, Subsea Technologies at FET, commented, “Innovation is key to FET’s long-term strategy, FET 2030, and this development represents a significant step forward in how ROV operations can be delivered. By enabling full system control from any location, we are giving our customers greater flexibility in how they deploy personnel and manage operational costs, without compromising performance or reliability.”

The company is currently demonstrating the technology’s capabilities at Oceanology 2026. During the event, an ROV located at the company’s headquarters in North Yorkshire is being piloted from a control chair at the conference in London, covering a distance of more than 300km (190 miles).

FET anticipates that the introduction of full remote control capability will support the evolving requirements of customers across the offshore energy, defense, and subsea markets.
