Boskalis has reached a significant milestone in subsea engineering with the first successful deployment of remotely operated vehicles from its newly established Remote Operations Center in Aberdeen.
The launch follows an 18-month development program and a GBP 40 million investment into both the Remote Operations Center and the vehicles themselves. This facility expands the remote capabilities of the company by allowing critical subsea tasks to be supported and controlled from shore. It serves as a central hub for fleet operations, providing on-demand expertise to support offshore crews while aiming to enhance operational efficiency and ensure safety across projects.
Bart Heijermans, COO and member of the Board of Management, commented, “The Remote Operations Center is a proud milestone for our team and a significant step forward in the way we deliver subsea operations.
“It demonstrates how innovation and technology can make our work safer, more efficient and better integrated. It also represents an important investment in our subsea services offering from our Aberdeen office, creating more than fifty high-quality onshore roles in the next five years to support our offshore crew and vessels while maintaining the high standards our clients expect.”
The center recently concluded a successful test phase, which involved a week of intensive trials from the construction support vessel BOKA Northern Ocean in the North Sea. These trials were designed to validate remote operations across a range of anticipated scenarios. Moving forward, the company plans to continue enhancing the center by integrating additional remote survey and inspection services to unlock further efficiencies and reinforce its position in subsea innovation.
