Boxfish Robotics‘ AUV Research Kit is a cutting-edge underwater robotics platform purpose-built for scientists and engineers pushing the boundaries of marine autonomy, computer vision, and subsea exploration.
Designed exclusively for research institutions, this kit empowers users to streamline development and field-testing of innovative algorithms and sensor integrations.
Built on the field-proven Boxfish AUV architecture, the platform combines robust hardware, high-performance imaging systems, and customisable software to eliminate technical barriers and accelerate research workflows. With a 6DOF design, onboard USBL and DVL systems, and seamless ROS2 integration, researchers gain precise control and localisation capabilities essential for complex missions.
Key components include the Boxfish AUV with an onboard computer, a 100-meter fibre optic tether for real-time telemetry and video, and an accessory box with essential tools and spares. The included SafePath Planner and Commander software suites facilitate intuitive mission planning and monitoring, while the comprehensive API supports rapid custom development.
The AUV is rated to 300 meters depth, powered by a 600Wh Li-ion battery for up to 10 hours of underwater endurance. Imaging is supported by synchronised stereo machine vision cameras, a 4K IP camera, and high-intensity lighting up to 20,000 lumens. Optional sensor support enables tailored configurations for a wide range of ocean science applications.
