SATURN from Teledyne TSS is a navigation system for surface vessels that provides heading, attitude, and motion data. Built on fiber optic gyro (FOG) technology with no moving parts, it delivers attitude and heading reference system (AHRS) performance for survey vessels, workboats, and commercial ships. The system is maintenance-free, has a high mean time between failures, and aligns within 10 minutes of switch-on.
SATURN provides heading, pitch, roll, heave, and velocity outputs. The current range has four heading accuracy variants: SATURN 05 (0.05°), SATURN10 (0.1°), SATURN30 (0.3°), and SATURN50 (0.5°), specified as secant latitude RMS. Roll and pitch accuracy is 0.01° for SATURN10 and 0.05° for SATURN30 and SATURN50, while stated heave accuracy is 5 cm or 5%. The Teledyne TSS embedded browser interface supports setup and configuration, and an AHRS-to-INS upgrade is available for applications requiring inertial positioning.
All SATURN models are IMO approved and WheelMark certified. SATURN 05 and SATURN10 have an IP66 rating, while SATURN30 and SATURN50 are rated IP31. The range supports vessel navigation, hydrography, dynamic positioning, and sonar stabilization.
