OceanScan-MST’s LAUV provides a configurable platform for underwater surveys and scientific data collection. Available with 100 m and 400 m depth options, it can combine sonar, imaging and environmental instruments to suit the survey task. Its lightweight design enables deployment and recovery by one person from shore, a pier or a small boat without cranes or specialized tools.
Payload choices range from side-scan and multibeam sonar to digital cameras, magnetometers and water-column sensors. Specialized instruments include MicroRider turbulence sensors and holographic particle-imaging systems. OceanScan-MST configures each vehicle during production, and independent payload modules and the open-source LSTS software toolchain allow later integration of additional instruments and user-developed capabilities.
GPS, AHRS and depth sensing can be complemented by DVL, tactical-grade inertial navigation, LBL, USBL and RTK options. Surface connectivity includes Wi-Fi and 5G cellular communications, with satellite and underwater acoustic links available. The portable Manta gateway links operators with one or more vehicles through wireless and acoustic connections.
Neptus software brings together mission configuration, planning, simulation, execution and post-survey analysis on a standard or rugged computer. The LAUV Remote app provides smartphone teleoperation and status checks, and a joystick can be used with the computer running Neptus. An external ballast rail allows adjustment for fresh or saltwater surveys.
Applications for the LAUV include:
- Marine biology
- Hydrography
- Marine archaeology
- Rapid environmental assessment (REA)
- Offshore oil and gas exploration
- Renewables
- Search and recovery (SAR)
- Security and surveillance
- Mine countermeasures (MCM)
- Anti-submarine warfare (ASW)
