The VG221-MS is an open-loop fiber optic gyro designed for integration into space-constrained systems. With a volume of 10 ml and a weight of 25 grams, the unit incorporates fully integrated optics and electronics within a µ-metal housing that supports magnetic shielding. Its compact form factor enables installation in maritime robotics and stabilized marine instruments where layout flexibility is limited.

The device supports a 400 °/s input range with 1 °/h bias (Allan variance minimum) and 0.05 °/√h angular random walk. A 1 kHz second-order low-pass filter provides signal conditioning suitable for motion control and stabilization loops. Scale factor stability is specified at 0.03% RMS (day-to-day), and magnetic response is 0.1 °/h/Gauss (typical), supported by integrated shielding. Power consumption is 0.3 W from a +5 V supply with a 0.05-second start-up time. The VG221-MS is ITAR-free to facilitate international marine deployment.
