General Dynamics Mission Systems has been awarded a $14.3 million contract modification by the U.S. Navy covering additional work on the Mining Expendable Delivery Unmanned Submarine Asset, or MEDUSA, program.
The modification exercises options under an existing contract for MEDUSA prototype systems, software development, Ashore Support Equipment and engineering services. Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.
Work will be carried out in Quincy and Taunton, Massachusetts, and is expected to be completed by July 2028.
MEDUSA is a submarine-launched delivery system that uses an expendable unmanned underwater vehicle to deploy a range of payloads with precision. It is being developed to meet U.S. Navy requirements for long-range offensive mining, while its ability to accommodate additional payloads is intended to support a wider range of maritime missions.
