RTS and Subnero have confirmed the successful integration of M25M acoustic smart modems into the RTS Cube system to enhance real-time communication between subsea structures and topside assets.

For more than a decade, the RTS Cube has served as a critical tool for operators, providing real-time data on deflection, tilt, and attitude for underwater structures. As certain hardware components approached their end-of-life, the Norway-based subsea measurement specialist sought a more robust acoustic communication partner to ensure the platform’s future performance and readiness.
The selection of Subnero’s M25M modems followed rigorous testing of the hardware, which is built on the UnetStack software-defined networking framework. This technology is designed to provide seamless and scalable connectivity for subsea infrastructure and autonomous underwater vehicles.
Ivar Ersland, Development Manager at RTS, said, “We did a thorough test before integrating the new Subnero modems into our Cube systems. The results showed significantly greater range and higher data rates compared to our existing solutions. In addition, the expanded functionality of the Subnero modems strengthens RTS’s ability to deliver customized sensor packages for deployment in remote locations.”

The transition to the software-defined technology has been validated through multiple offshore deployments. This update aims to reduce operational turnaround times while improving the long-term maintainability and safety of the Cube systems during subsea construction and survey operations. By combining field experience with new acoustic technology, the partnership allows for more flexible and connected subsea instrumentation solutions globally.
