Ocean Sonics introduced two new innovations in underwater acoustic monitoring at Oceanology International 2026: the Impact plug-in software and the icListen Kayak hydrophone.
Ocean Sonics’ presence at Oceanology International 2026 also marked a milestone, as the company showcased its expanded product portfolio from a dedicated booth. The company noted that growing global demand for its technologies and an expanding customer base contributed to the need for a larger presence at the event.
The Impact plug-in software is designed to deliver real-time data and alerts for teams monitoring underwater sound levels during marine construction. Fully aligned with ISO 18406, the software streamlines compliance workflows and supports real-time monitoring of activities such as pile driving. By providing instant threshold notifications, Impact enables operators to respond quickly to changing conditions, helping mitigate acoustic impacts on marine life while maintaining regulatory compliance.
The icListen Kayak is Ocean Sonics’ smallest and most scalable hydrophone to date. This low-power smart sensor retains the advanced onboard processing capabilities of the icListen product line, while introducing a significantly reduced form factor. With real-time data streaming and flexible integration options, the Kayak is designed to expand deployment possibilities across a wide range of underwater platforms.
Engineered for efficiency and adaptability, the icListen Kayak can be deployed on autonomous underwater vehicles, gliders, floats, and remotely operated systems. Its compact size makes it well suited for missions where space, weight, and power consumption are critical constraints.
An Ocean Sonics spokesperson commented, “At Ocean Sonics, our mission has always been to make underwater listening simple, accurate, and reliable. At our core, we believe that access to high quality underwater listening data should be accessible. Both the Impact software and the icListen Kayak reflect this commitment. They simplify workflows, reduce barriers to deployment, and enable faster, more informed decision-making. These innovations continue our strategic vision of expanding access to real-time underwater listening.”
According to Ocean Sonics, both products reflect the company’s broader mission to make underwater acoustic monitoring more accessible, intuitive, and actionable. By combining onboard processing, real-time connectivity, and streamlined workflows, the company aims to support faster decision-making and more efficient use of acoustic data.
