Global marine and energy solutions provider James Fisher is introducing a fleet of 25 new electric compressors manufactured in Stavanger to support offshore operators in maintaining reliable energy production while reducing operational carbon intensity.

Led by the company’s team in Norway, the scalable fleet includes the ST25EL, a high-output electric air compressor, and the ST10EL, an ultra-compact variant designed specifically for small back deck environments. The range delivers a high-pressure air supply for offshore well testing, drilling, production, and maintenance operations with significantly lower emissions than conventional diesel-powered alternatives.

Recent offshore deployments demonstrate the technology’s measurable environmental and commercial impact. During a drilling project, five ST25EL units reduced CO2 emissions by 160 tonnes compared to diesel alternatives, while a separate well drilling campaign using two ST25EL units enabled remote operations, cutting emissions by 70 tonnes and saving approximately USD $62,000 through lower fuel consumption and averted carbon tax costs. Furthermore, an independent lifecycle assessment aligned with ISO 14040 methodology established that the ST25EL can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 94% when powered by the Norwegian energy grid, and by 23-25% when powered by a diesel generator.

Neil Sims, Head of Energy at James Fisher, commented, “Offshore operators are under increasing pressure to maintain reliable production while reducing emissions and operating costs. Our new electric compressor fleet has been developed to help customers achieve all three without compromising performance.

“By combining significantly longer operating runtimes with lower emissions and reduced maintenance requirements, we’re providing a practical solution that supports today’s operational demands while helping customers prepare for the future.”

Andreas Fliss, Country Manager (Norway) for James Fisher, added, “Through our market research and customer feedback on the need for lightweight, powerful and carbon tax-aligned solutions, James Fisher has drawn upon its in-house engineering and R&D experience to bring the electrified compressor range to market through its own supply chain.

“Both the ST25EL and ST10EL enable safe, reliable well operations while directly addressing both security of supply and decarbonisation goals. These practical, scalable solutions demonstrate our commitment to technological innovation in supporting the needs of our customer base internationally.”

James Fisher will exhibit at ONS Norway in Stavanger from 24 to 27 August 2026, where the company will present on the real-world impact of electric compressors during the ‘Powering Net Zero’ technical session on Thursday, 27 August.
