Cydome has introduced a new deployment option for its maritime cybersecurity platform that allows offshore energy facilities to implement comprehensive protection without physical on-site installation.
The solution, known as Cydome Embedded for Remote Energy Facilities, functions as a virtual container that runs directly on existing communication devices. This approach is specifically designed for space-constrained and hard-to-access infrastructure, such as offshore wind farms, where traditional hardware installations are often logistically difficult and cost-prohibitive. By utilizing edge computing, the software is optimized to operate on resource-constrained VSAT routers and network edge devices.
The offshore renewable energy sector is currently experiencing rapid growth, with European capacity reaching 34 GW and the U.S. market accelerating to meet energy demands. Despite this expansion, data suggests a significant security gap in the industry. Only 1% of the 11,000 wind assets globally are estimated to have adequate cyber protection, even as UK renewable assets face up to 1,000 attempted attacks daily. In 2025, ransomware attacks on energy and utilities increased by 80%, with average incident costs exceeding $5 million.
The economics of protecting these remote assets have historically been a barrier to security and regulatory compliance. Sending technicians offshore for manual installations can cost up to $200,000 when accounting for vessel rentals, while a single day of downtime for a 10MW turbine can result in $15,000 to $30,000 in lost revenue. Cydome’s remote deployment model aims to bypass these costs by allowing for full installation and maintenance through existing network hardware from providers such as Peplink and Speedcast.
Built on a class-certified platform endorsed by ClassNK and RINA, the system provides AI-driven real-time threat detection, automated vulnerability scanning, and network security across both IT and OT environments.
