Nortek has introduced the Marin buoy and ADCP system at the Oceans 2026 conference in Monterey, delivering an integrated end-to-end platform for real-time current profiling and oceanographic monitoring.

Building on the manufacturer’s more than 30 years of experience in Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs), the platform combines a surface buoy, a built-in Marin ADCP, and dedicated software for live data viewing. The built-in ADCP provides current profiles across a range of up to 20 meters. To account for the dynamic nature of surface buoys, the system utilizes onboard OceanIQ smart QA/QC edge processing capabilities to perform real-time motion correction adjustments and automatically filter data for quality control prior to satellite transmission.

The buoy design balances structural stability for current profiling with the movement required to gather wave parameters. Onboard wave algorithms convert GNSS position information into wave data, which is transmitted alongside current profile metrics, temperature, salinity, and other supporting information. Weighing 20 kg with a full battery set, the compact system emphasizes portability and ease of deployment.

To manage incoming data streams, Nortek’s SeaSense software provides a real-time viewing portal. The application enables operators to monitor multiple buoy deployments, inspect system status, and track live current velocity and wave data in real time, delivering a complete solution for oceanic data collection.
