The Teledyne RESON Parasound deep sea sub bottom profiler is a marine sensing system designed to map sub-seafloor structure across the full ocean depth range of 10 to 11,000 m. It combines parametric and conventional profiling techniques, operating across multiple frequency bands, including a primary high-frequency range of 18–24 kHz and parametric bands spanning 0.5–7 kHz and 37–42 kHz. The system supports sediment penetration beyond 200 m (P70) and achieves a narrow 4.5° beam footprint enabled by 15 cm vertical sampling. Signal processing architecture includes up to 128 transducer channels and 288 ADC channels for dense acoustic acquisition.
Operational performance is enhanced through Quasi Equi-Distant (QED) multi-ping processing, enabling up to 16 simultaneous pings and a maximum ping rate of 16 Hz. The system supports pulse modulation from 0.17 to 25 ms with both continuous wave and chirp-based waveforms, alongside motion compensation for roll (±15°), pitch (±10°), yaw (±10°), and heave correction. It delivers range resolution down to 6 cm and sediment detail finer than 15 cm, with water column resolution reaching 6 cm. Data output formats include ASD, PS3, and SEG-Y, supporting integration into ocean science and offshore survey workflows under varied sea conditions.
