Benthos Acoustic Release

Teledyne Benthos Acoustic Releases comprise a family of subsea release systems engineered for the dependable deployment and retrieval of moorings, scientific instruments, and other underwater assets across shallow, mid-water, and deep-ocean environments. Using a secure acoustic command transmitted from a compatible topside controller, the releases disengage in-line equipment with rated loads of up to 10,000 lbs for recovery to the surface. The product range is designed to support extended field operations, offering deployment lives of up to four years on standard alkaline batteries while providing remote access to battery status, release state, and system diagnostics to assist with mission planning and asset management.

The Benthos portfolio incorporates broadband communication technology for extended operating range and improved link reliability, together with remotely adjustable transmit power to optimize performance under varying environmental conditions. Integrated tilt measurement to ±1° accuracy helps users verify mooring orientation, while domain key functionality expands addressing capability for larger installations and helps prevent unauthorized activation. Green housings aid visibility during handling and recovery, and the releases can be operated through the Teledyne Benthos Universal Topside System (UTS-9500), the ReleaseIt deck box for coastal and shallow-water applications, or compatible Benthos modems. An optional UTS GNSS capability enables survey-in of moorings and subsea platforms without requiring an external PC.
