LabSTAF HB is the high-biomass version of Chelsea Technologies’ Single Turnover Active Fluorometry system for evaluating phytoplankton primary productivity. It uses variable fluorescence measurements from living phytoplankton cells and provides a high dynamic range spanning extreme oligotrophic and mesotrophic conditions, as well as some eutrophic environments.
Developed for high-biomass applications such as industrial algae production, LabSTAF HB provides in-situ data for optimizing harvests, assessing culture performance, identifying contamination at an early stage and monitoring pond cultures. Its rapid and accurate measurements enable informed decisions based on the scale and health of phytoplankton populations.
Designed for continuous operation with minimal intervention, the portable system includes a solenoid unit, peristaltic pump and Windows-based RunSTAF software. LabSTAF HB supports manual control or highly automated operation across a wide range of experimental setups, with real-time analysis and access to primary data.
