FastBallast is a portable compliance monitoring device for rapidly assessing treated ballast water against IMO D-2 regulations. The independently-certified system uses STAF (Single Turnover Active Fluorescence) technology to measure the distribution of variable fluorescence from living phytoplankton cells, providing an accurate assessment of cell count within the regulated size range of 10 to 50 microns.
The IMO-approved system delivers a clear pass or fail result in under ten minutes, including sample preparation and setup. This enables vessel operators, port state authorities and service companies to identify potential compliance issues without waiting for laboratory analysis.
Designed for intuitive use by a single operator, FastBallast requires minimal training and is supplied in a portable backpack with a Galaxy A9 tablet-based interface. The system has been tested by NIVA and accredited by DNV to IMO PPR 10/18 requirements in accordance with the BWM.2-Circ.78 protocol for verifying ballast water compliance monitoring devices.
