Applied Acoustics has played a key role in enhancing the survey capabilities of the Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia (HHI).
By supplying advanced equipment, including sound sources, energy sources, and sub-bottom profiling solutions, the company has supported HHI in achieving higher precision and reliability in its operations.
Background: Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia
HHI carries out a wide range of hydrographic and oceanographic surveys for projects across multiple industries, including ocean science, oil and gas, as well as submarine cable and wastewater route surveys for utility providers.
The institute also undertakes national surveys used in nautical charts and related publications, and offers additional services to small and medium-sized enterprises, such as fish farms and ACI Marinas, a major marina operator in the Mediterranean.
As a government-owned entity, HHI is also tasked with safeguarding marine security and environmental protection within Croatia’s territorial waters.
Applied Acoustics: Enhancing Survey Precision for Offshore Projects
To strengthen the accuracy and quality of its surveys, HHI turned to Applied Acoustics. The company’s Dura-Spark 240 sound source, paired with the CSP-Nv energy source, has significantly improved the performance and reliability of HHI’s geophysical surveys, particularly the continuous 24-hour surveys frequently required for offshore oil and gas operations.
The system ensures uninterrupted electricity supply, which is vital when covering extensive survey routes over many kilometers.
In addition, Applied Acoustics’ hydrophones and sub-bottom profiling solutions have increased HHI’s competitiveness and provided greater adaptability for varied working environments. With a broader range of technology available, the institute can now approach project planning with greater confidence and precision.
Ivan Petricevic Senior Marine Geologist, Hydrographic Institute of the Republic of Croatia, commented, “I had occasional correspondence with the applied acoustics team, and they were very accessible no matter how many times I asked them to modify their quotations due to strict purchasing protocol that we have to follow as a government body. If applied acoustics launches another piece of high-end equipment that I could use, I will definitely go back to them again.”
