applied acoustics has worked with Fugro for over 25 years, supplying a range of advanced sub-bottom profiling systems to support marine site characterization activities. This enduring partnership has contributed to Fugro’s ability to achieve higher-resolution seismic imaging, especially in support of offshore renewable energy developments.
Fugro is a leading geo-data specialist, employing more than 9,500 people globally. The company acquires and analyzes detailed Earth and infrastructure data to support safe, efficient solutions during the global transition to sustainable energy. Fugro’s latest profiling systems produce seismic datasets with resolutions under 20 cm, enabling more accurate interpretation of subsurface features.
applied acoustics supplies a range of systems used by Fugro, including energy sources, sparkers, hydrophones, and the HYPACK® SBP Workstation. These products support Fugro in delivering high-resolution geo-data across offshore renewables, port and harbor surveys, and unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance projects.
Offshore wind development presents unique challenges, requiring both depth penetration and fine resolution from seismic systems, parameters that are typically difficult to optimize simultaneously. The use of sparker sources and compact seismic power (CSP) units from applied acoustics has enabled Fugro to configure seismic sources that meet, and in some cases exceed, conventional industry specifications. These improvements have directly enhanced Fugro’s ability to deliver seismic data of a quality that allows correlation with soil properties.

This capability underpins Fugro’s integrated approach to supporting offshore wind projects across the full lifecycle, including feasibility assessments, geotechnical site investigations, engineering design, marine construction, and operational support.
Blair McGunnigle, Product Owner at Marine Seismic Operations at Furgo, commented, “Fugro values our relationship with applied acoustics as an innovative and reliable equipment supplier. We trust the quality of product delivered and it is central to our Ultra Ultra High Resolution seismic offerings. The support and advice given by the applied acoustics team are of a high standard and we look forward to strengthening this relationship with future innovative collaborations.”
