The Svifaldan award, otherwise known as the “Innovation Award”, was presented to Hefring Marine during the Icelandic Seafood Conference, the two-day event highlighting the advancements in maritime and fishing industries.

Hefring Marine’s smart AI systems have been designed to enhance efficiency and safety on the water, and have caught the attention of both the national and international maritime community. Hefring’s innovative approach to navigation technology, which collects and analyzes real-time data from vessel movements, onboard equipment, and wave conditions to recommend the optimal cruising speeds is recognized by this award.
The system utilizes artificial intelligence to help ship operators make informed decisions, minimizing maintenance expenses, conserving fuel, significantly lowering accident risks, and lowering their carbon foot print.
Methúsalem Hilmarsson of TM, who presented the award, stated, “The aim of the SvifaldanAward, is to inspire innovation and entrepreneurship, while highlighting the vitalrole of sustainable and forward-thinking solutions in the fishing and maritime industries.”
Karl Birgir Björnsson, CEO and co-founder of Hefring Marine, also commented, “We are honoured to receive the Svifaldan award. It validates our commitment to innovation and safety in marine navigation, and we are excited about the impact our technology will continue to have on the global maritime industry.”
The rigorous selection process for Svifaldan involved a jury composed of experts from across the fishing and technology sectors. The criteria included the project’s innovative character, potential contribution to sustainability, and the enrichment of the Icelandic fishing industry’s global image. Earlier this year, Hefring Marine secured €2.2 million in funding, a sign of strong investor confidence in its mission as they gained significant traction.
Hefring Marine’s achievement and The Seafood Conferences continued innovation safeguarding the future of seasfaring and fishing operations, further cementing Iceland’s role as a hub for cutting edge maritime technology.
