NORBIT Subsea, a specialist in ultra-compact wideband multibeam sonars for subsea and surface platforms, is hosting a two-day Multibeam Operators Course (Level 1) taking place October 2–3, 2025, in Chicago, IL.
The operators course is designed to teach the setup, validation, and operation of a high-performance NORBIT multibeam sonar for surveying and mapping.
The system will be mobilized “out of the box” and participants will be guided through the setup on a vessel of opportunity in real-time. The training is classroom-based and will include live demonstrations of onsite equipment, as well as remote operations of the equipment by class participants.
Upon completion of this course, users will be able to set up a NORBIT sonar system with the highly portable PORTUS pole mounting solution, validate the installation, verify offsets and installation parameters, and collect accurate and repeatable bathymetric survey data.
Each participant will be issued a certificate for NORBIT Multibeam Operators Course (Level 1) upon completion. Class size is limited and space is not guaranteed without prior registration and payment.
The course will cover topics including:
- System setup and configuration
- Multibeam alignment calibration (patch test)
- Independent plate check (accuracy assessment)
- Sonar settings and data collection to address various survey requirements
- Tips, tricks, and best survey practices
- Data handling and review
