Elwave has been selected as one of the first 20 companies to join the inaugural cohort of the EU Defence Innovation Scheme (EUDIS), following its earlier selection for NATO’s DIANA initiative in 2024.
It is thought to be the only company to have been chosen for both programs currently.
This recognition reflects the assessment by both NATO and the European Defence Commission that Elwave’s technology has strong potential to disrupt subsea defense capabilities. The company is also seen as a credible actor capable of developing this innovation into viable defense solutions.

Elwave’s sensing technology is based on proprietary electromagnetic methods that enable the detection and characterization of a wide range of underwater materials, metallic, non-metallic, plastic, and organic, even in low visibility, buried, or cluttered environments. It delivers real-time data on targets’ location, shape, impedance, and concentration, displayed through a 2D map. These capabilities are applicable to commercial, industrial, and defense domains, including security, inspection, surveying, and marine research.
EUDIS, established under the European Defence Fund (EDF), is designed to support startups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) developing technologies with defense applications. The initiative aims to lower entry barriers for non-traditional defense actors by offering access to funding instruments and development support.
The program will run over an eight-month period, during which Elwave will receive coaching and participate in a sea trial to demonstrate its sensor technology within a defense setting.
