FT Technologies is a developer of ultrasonic wind measurement solutions for harsh marine environments, providing solid-state sensors with exceptional reliability and durability. Find out more >>
The company is showcasing its advanced wind sensor technology on OST, designed to meet the performance demands of ocean-facing installations and long-term offshore deployments.
FT Ultrasonic Wind Sensors
FT Technologies’ wind sensors use patented Acu-Res® technology, converting ultrasonic acoustic waves into wind speed and direction measurements with an extremely high signal-to-noise ratio. The system automatically compensates for temperature, humidity, and pressure, ensuring accurate and stable output across variable marine conditions.
Built to resist salt spray, vibration, ice, hail, and electromagnetic interference, the sensors are compact, lightweight, and corrosion-resistant. They are calibrated individually and verified against industry-standard wind tunnels for consistent performance.
FT602-SM
The FT602-SM measures wind speed up to 75 m/s, 360° wind direction, temperature, pressure, compass heading, and acceleration. The sensor is constructed from UV-stabilized polycarbonate, sealed to IP67 standards, and operates reliably under shock and heavy rainfall.
Weighing only 170 grams, the FT602-SM supports both surface and pipe mounting, with direct USB power and standard data interfaces. Its compact form factor and robust construction make it suitable for a range of marine vessels, ocean buoys, and research craft.
FT743-SM
Designed for icy offshore conditions, the FT743-SM measures wind speeds up to 75 m/s and includes a full-body thermostatically-controlled heating system. The unit is housed in anodized aluminum and weighs just 252 grams.
Its rugged design supports long-term marine operations where exposure to freezing temperatures, high winds, and corrosive saltwater is routine. The FT743-SM is engineered for minimal maintenance and sustained accuracy in extreme weather.
Applications
- Commercial marine vessels: FT Technologies’ sensors deliver critical wind data for navigation, route planning, and operational safety. EMI shielding ensures uninterrupted performance near radar and other high-power onboard systems.
- Ocean buoys: With strong environmental resistance, FT wind sensors are ideal for buoy installations and remote weather stations exposed to saltwater and wave action.
- Performance sailing: For marine sports, FT ultrasonic wind sensors provide the precision and rapid response needed for tactical adjustments during racing events.
