ELWAVE, a deep-tech firm specializing in subsea active and passive electric-field sensors, has formed a strategic partnership with Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) to develop and deploy electric-field sensors that enhance monitoring and inspection of subsea telecommunication cables.
Through this agreement, ASN, a global leader in optical submarine cable systems, and ELWAVE will adapt and implement ELWAVE’s advanced detection and inspection solutions to support ASN’s operational needs.
The collaboration aims to qualify a patented electric perception sensing technology, which enables autonomous tracking of laid and buried cables while measuring their depth of burial. The sensor offers a wider detection range than conventional electromagnetic systems.
The compact design of the electric sensor allows for its integration onto subsea drones, supporting new operational capabilities for subsea cable maintenance, including telecommunications and offshore wind cables, as well as pipeline inspection.
The technology also has applications in naval operations such as critical infrastructure monitoring and seabed control missions, opening opportunities across both civil and defense domains.
Jérémie Maillet, Marine Operations Director at ASN, commented, “ELWAVE shares our commitment to innovation and quality. Together, we aim to modernize the operational processes that are so critical to our cable-laying activities, while seizing the opportunities that new technologies bring.”
Pierre Tuffigo, President of ELWAVE, added “Partnering with ASN, the global leader in submarine cable systems, marks a major milestone in our ambition to deploy our electric perception solutions with top-tier clients such as telecom operators and hyperscalers.”
