Danelec, a leader in maritime solutions, has released the DM100 VDR G3, the latest generation of its Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) platform, designed for operational, regulatory and smart-shipping demands.

The DM100 VDR G3 addresses the increasing data volumes from modern bridge and engine systems, as well as rising expectations for safety, compliance, and transparency. It features upgraded robustness, cloud connectivity, and smarter diagnostics for improved safety and compliance, supporting fleet-wide business continuity.

The new VDR features a redesigned internal architecture to reduce single points of failure, an expanded battery capacity, new microphone options, and an upgraded Bridge Control Panel. The Data Acquisition Unit and modular storage are designed to capture high-bandwidth data from sources such as S-100 ECDIS overlays and 4K radar.

For compliance and maintenance, the DM100 VDR G3 incorporates automated self-tests and built-in diagnostics that integrate with Danelec’s Safety Insights and Service App for early issue detection and fast resolution.

Cloud-ready connectivity, enabled by the Vessel Remote Server (VRS), allows for remote diagnostics, proactive maintenance planning, remote Operational Performance Testing (OPT), and secure shore access to up to 30 days of recorded VDR data.

In terms of serviceability, a software-controlled power circuit is prepared for a safe remote power-down to allow for full battery testing.

Christian Kock, EVP of Safety at Danelec, stated, “Far more than a regulatory device, VDRs are today becoming a central source of operational intelligence. With the DM100 VDR G3 we have combined the resilience needed for safety-critical performance with advanced connectivity, diagnostics and modular architecture.

“This allows owners not only to stay compliant under today’s demanding standards, but also to prepare for the challenges of tomorrow, where cybersecurity, AI and data transparency will play an even greater role in safe and efficient vessel operations.”

The platform has been engineered for real-world installations across various vessel types, including cruise ships, offshore, commercial, and naval vessels. The DM100 VDR G3 is supported by Danelec’s global service partner network and comes with a three-year warranty and lifecycle support through 2040. The company also offers SWAP technology for rapid replacement of units.
