ZeroUSV, a British autonomous vessel company, has finished its third Oceanus12 Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV), expanding its available autonomous fleet.

The Oceanus12 is an 11.55-meter aluminium monohull with a 2.33-meter maximum beam. It is propelled by a twin electric-hybrid drive system. The vessel offers an endurance of over 2,500 nautical miles at six knots and includes solar charging for additional redundancy, contributing to its low-fuel consumption. It features a one-tonne adaptable bay with a quick-change sensor deployment strut for various payloads.

The vessel is designed to be a common platform for multiple missions. It can be set up for Underwater Warfare operations in the defence sector or with hydrographic survey equipment for the commercial hydrography market.

ZeroUSV Unveils Third USV Featuring Dazzle Camouflage

This latest vessel features a geometric livery inspired by the dazzle camouflage used by the Royal Navy in the early 20th century. This historic pattern was used to distort visual range finding and course estimation rather than for concealment, and its modern use is intended to connect naval heritage with current maritime innovation.

The USV is controlled using MarineAI’s GuardianAI autonomy suite, which facilitates COLREG-compliant navigation, adaptive decision-making, remote mission control, and integration of third-party payloads.

Matthew Ratsey, Managing Director of ZeroUSV, said, “Inspired by the bold dazzle camouflage of the First World War, a geometric pattern designed to distort perception and conceal a ship’s course, Dazzle fuses naval heritage with the forefront of modern maritime innovation. Following on from our significant success with her sistership at Exercise REPMUS it seemed appropriate and timely to use this paint scheme for our next vessel off the production line.”

The completion of this third Oceanus12 reinforces the company’s commitment to providing a Commercially Off The Shelf (COTS) USV solution. The vessel is currently being commissioned and is scheduled to enter sea trials shortly.

Upon completion, it will join the operational fleet alongside ZeroUSV’s first two Oceanus12 vessels, which are currently operating in Plymouth, UK, and with Leeway Marine in Halifax, Canada.
