Maritime Robotics is a leading developer of autonomy and uncrewed vessel technologies that are designed to revolutionize the marine industry. Our innovative solutions enhance safety, sustainability and efficiency for maritime operations in the ocean space, and we have delivered the benefits of autonomous technology to clients and partners around the world for nearly two decades.

Autonomous Navigation System

The Maritime Robotics Autonomous Navigation System powers all our USV platforms, offering safe navigation and enhanced operational performance in both complex coastal areas and open-sea environments.

autonomous navigation system

The system utilizes three basic steps:

  1. Sense – use a range of onboard sensors to gather real-time information on the vessel’s surroundings
  2. Decide – analyze the collected data to calculate the best possible navigational decisions
  3. Act – execute the chosen maneuvers autonomously, or allow an operator to approve or modify the plan before execution

Our Autonomous Navigation System can also be fitted to a range of third-party vessels, transforming them into uncrewed assets with autonomy levels tailored to your specific requirements.

SeaSight

SeaSight is a situational awareness and collision avoidance system that utilizes multiple low-light HD cameras, a 360-degree LiDAR scanner and other sensors to provide accurate hazard detection and obstacle navigation even under poor visibility conditions. The system reliably detects and avoids virtually anything that could potentially interfere with the safe operation of the USV, including other vessels, buoys, the shoreline, animals, and sea plants.

SeaCapture

SeaCapture is a powerful software suite that enables real-time logging and processing of data from a wide range of USV payloads, including single- and multibeam sonars, LiDAR scanners, navigation systems, and CTD and SVP sensors. It works seamlessly with our USV control station to provide a unified interface for survey planning, payload control, and data acquisition.

Applications

Marine Mapping & Surveying

Our sensor-agnostic USVs can be equipped with a wide range of mapping and surveying solutions from leading manufacturers, with options including single- and multibeam echo sounders, side scan sonars, sub-bottom profilers, EO/IR cameras and more. With the ability to be managed remotely from shore-based control centers, our uncrewed vessels significantly enhance the efficiency and flexibility of survey missions while minimizing risks and fatigue for operators.

marine mapping and surveying solutions

Specific survey use cases include:

  • Bathymetric surveys – cost-effectively mapping out the dynamically changing characteristics of the ocean floor under highly challenging conditions
  • Hydrographic surveys – accurately capturing features of the seabed and coastline to update nautical charts and ensure safe marine operations
  • Geological & seabed surveys – utilizing a comprehensive suite of sensors to map hazards, archaeological potential, and other geological attributes

Oceanographic Data Collection

Equipped with advanced oceanographic, meteorological, geophysical, or biological sensor packages, USVs are a cost-effective alternative to traditional data-gathering methods, and can operate in challenging areas such as shallow and coastal areas where other research vessels may struggle.

Oceanographic Data Collection

Use cases include:

  • Environmental research & assessment – by deploying advanced sensors for comprehensive data collection, and mapping and visualizing the seafloor and underwater structures, USVs can aid in understanding how the underwater environment changes over time and our impact upon it
  • Climate change monitoring – USVs can rapidly and repeatedly gather critical data such as wind speed, wave height, water temperature, and water quality, allowing researchers to gain valuable information on climate change and meteorological conditions.
  • Marine life data collection – echosounders, sonars and other marine technologies can be used to detect and track marine life, enabling more efficient and sustainable fishing operations and improving our knowledge of marine ecosystems

Inspection & Monitoring

USVs and autonomy technologies are ideal for enhancing the efficiency of inspection and maintenance of maritime infrastructure and facilities, including bridges, ports, wind farms, and offshore oil and gas facilities. This enables these assets to continue operating at peak condition with minimal downtime.

Maritime surveillance & inspection

Our USVs can also be equipped to act as transportation, deployment and support vessels for ROVs and AUVs, providing reliable power and communications capabilities as the underwater vehicles carry out their missions.

Security & Surveillance

Our USVs can autonomously patrol harbors, ports and other sensitive areas, providing reliable detection of vessels, divers and other potential threats to security. They can also be used to detect UXO (unexploded ordnance) and other explosive hazards while keeping operators out of harm’s way.
