Teledyne Marine has launched the HydroPACT 440 MK2, marking a significant technical upgrade to its long-standing subsea pipe and cable tracking technology.
The original HydroPACT 440 has served as an industry standard since the early 1990s, utilized extensively across the offshore energy, telecommunications, and defense sectors. Its primary function involves the installation, surveying, and verification of subsea assets by providing real-time tracking and critical proof-of-lay data. This new iteration seeks to provide long-term continuity of supply while maintaining the operability familiar to generations of offshore personnel.
The MK2 features a comprehensive redesign centered on a new titanium subsea housing. This material choice results in a unit that is both lighter and more compact than its predecessor, while providing a standard depth rating of 6,000 meters. To accommodate the rise of electric Remotely Operated Vehicles (eROVs) in the market, the system is now offered as a 24Vdc single subsea pod, a configuration intended to reduce both operational complexity and cost.
Jeremy Harrison, Business Manager at Teledyne Marine, said, “After many months of trials and testing, we’re extremely proud to introduce the HydroPACT 440 MK2. Customers can expect the same credible, proven performance they trust, but in a refreshed design built to operate reliably for decades to come. Continuity and future-proofing were our guiding principles.”
On the surface, the system introduces new SDC11 and RMC11 topside computers. These units run an upgraded version of the DeepView operating system that is fully compatible with Windows 11, ensuring the survey workflow remains modern while retaining the interface familiar to existing users.
The system remains highly adaptable, capable of deployment on a wide range of large ROVs and trenchers. This flexibility allows operators to conduct independent surveys and verify work in situ, which can contribute to lower overall project costs. For organizations currently utilizing legacy hardware, Teledyne Marine is offering specific upgrade and replacement paths.
Despite the architectural overhaul and material upgrades, the HydroPACT 440 MK2 is being released at the same price point as the previous model. The system is available for immediate purchase and is scheduled for its official public debut at Oceanology International 2026 in London this March.
