Deep Trekker is a partner in a two-day Aquatic Incident Management Systems (AIMS) training program in South Lake Tahoe, California, on April 11–12, 2026.
The program is free for qualified public safety professionals, including police dive teams, sheriff departments, fire rescue units, and search and recovery teams.
The training is hosted in partnership with Deep Trekker, SKS Solutions, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, and the California Boating Safety Officers Association. It focuses on practical instruction for integrating Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and side-scan sonar into aquatic incident response. The event combines classroom sessions with on-water exercises designed to replicate real search and recovery scenarios, providing a methodical framework for coordinating personnel, equipment, and technology.
The curriculum covers several critical operational components. Participants will study incident scene assessment and management, learning how to evaluate an aquatic scene and determine search strategies. Specialized instruction in side-scan sonar interpretation will help responders identify objects and evidence targets from real sonar scans. Additionally, hands-on exercises will allow participants to practice ROV deployment and recovery, including launch procedures and maneuvering techniques.
Led by Shane Seagroves, a public safety professional with more than 30 years of operational and emergency management experience, the program emphasizes field application over theoretical instruction. Seagroves, who has served as an NC Executive Emergency Manager and worked with the Naval Postgraduate School Radiological Emergency Preparedness Program, has designed the course to reflect the real operational challenges faced by dive teams.
Previous AIMS sessions have been delivered to agencies in Florida and North Dakota. This South Lake Tahoe event brings the opportunity to agencies across the western United States, offering an immersive experience where teams can refine search procedures and maintain evidence integrity through structured planning.
The training will be held from 8am to 5pm each day at 4130 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Registration is currently open for the program, find out more here.
