Ultra Motion is a leading developer and manufacturer of PBOF (pressure-balanced oil-filled) linear and rotary actuators for critical subsea and marine applications. Featuring brushless DC motor control electronics and contactless absolute position feedback in a compact and lightweight package, our unique designs support underwater vehicles and technologies operating down to depths of over 6000 meters.

Advanced actuator technology for demanding subsea environments

Our cutting-edge design and manufacturing capabilities have enabled us to create cost-effective subsea actuator technology, providing highly reliable solutions in a compact and power-dense footprint.

We utilize a range of different measures to ensure that our products excel under the harshest marine conditions, including MIL-A-8625 Type III anodized aluminum enclosures, 316L stainless steel hardware and shafts, cathodic protection, and wet-mate underwater connectors from leading suppliers.

Phase Index – innovative position sensing

We have developed an innovative position sensor technology for electromechanical actuators that provides consistent performance over a wide temperature range and is highly resilient to vibration, shock, particulate debris, and condensing moisture. Our Phase Index technology is self-calibrating and retains accurate absolute position when power is off, even without backup power.

Seamlessly integrated into each of our Servo Cylinder products, Phase Index provides advanced Field-Oriented Control (FOC) of the motor and requires no other sensors or limit switches for position feedback, resulting in improved reliability and longevity and reduced noise.

AU Series

Next-generation subsea servo cylinders with built-in control electronics

subsea linear actuatorsThe AU Series of subsea linear actuators is designed to withstand the most challenging of operating conditions both above and below the surface. With built-in BLDC control electronics and contactless absolute position feedback, it is available in a 6000+ meter version for deep-sea applications, or a low-cost 75 meter version for shallow-water operations and surface vessels.

The AU Series is ideal for a wide range of use cases including ROV control surfaces, hydrofoils, subsea valves and release mechanisms, USVs, and more.

U-Series

Versatile linear actuators with absolute position feedback

underwater linear actuatorsThe U-Series of pressure-compensated oil-filled linear actuators provides a wide variety of options to suit specific requirements for critical surface and subsea applications, including stepper motors or brushless DC motors, self-locking Acme leadscrews or high-efficiency ballscrews, custom cable lengths, and stroke lengths from 1 to 16 inches.

Featuring an internal linear potentiometer for absolute position feedback and SubConn Wet-Mate connectors as standard, the actuators are highly suited to a wide range of applications including subsea vehicle hydroplanes, instrument and antenna deployment, and hydrofoil and rudder control.

T3U Rotary Actuator

Rotary servo actuator for challenging subsea applications

Rotary servo actuator for challenging subsea applications

The T3U is a high-performance rotary servo actuator designed for dynamic and highly demanding applications in harsh subsea and marine environments. Featuring integrated brushless DC control electronics and contactless absolute position feedback, the compact actuator delivers high torque and has been constructed with best-in-class materials and components. Instead of compound spur gear trains, the advanced design utilizes a unique gearing setup that allows it to handle high transient loads without structural failure.

The rugged pressure compensated oil-filled unit can be equipped to withstand depths of 6000 meters, and is ideal for a range of applications including rudder and moving surface control as well as subsea valve actuation. It provides a number of versatile interface options including CAN 2.0B, RS-485 serial, or optically-isolated RC PWM, and feeds back a variety of vital information such as absolute position, motor phase current, temperature, bus voltage, and actuator health.
