ELWAVE has released a cutting-edge compact subsea electric sensor: the TETRAPULSE ESENSE 300. This innovative sensor uses patented CEDAR (Controlled Electric Detection And Ranging) technology to detect plastic and metallic objects, even in high turbidity water with no light, much like an ‘electric camera’.
CEDAR is bio-inspired by the active electrolocation perception mode of some tropical fishes. By generating a low-frequency AC electric field, CEDAR is able to detect objects in the near vicinity that cause changes in current intensity. These disturbances can be measured to simultaneously detect, locate and classify subsea targets.
The TETRAPULSE ESENSE 300 is suitable for a wide range of subsea platforms including AUVs, ROVs, and subsea crawlers. Capable of detecting both metal and non-metallic targets, the sensor can also identify non-ferrous materials and targets buried 1-2 meters beneath the seafloor.
Technical Specifications
Array configuration | 2 to 4 electrodes |
Operational frequency range | 100Hz-25kHz |
Maximum emitted signal | 2 Amps / 24V |
Applications include inspection of critical marine infrastructure, cable and pipeline survey, marine archaeology and environmental survey, as well as military use within mine hunting operations, UXO surveys, and seabed warfare.
Modular and lightweight, with low power consumption, the TETRAPULSE ESENSE 300 features selective EM field frequencies, between 100Hz to 25Khz, and ultra-high sensitivity. The advanced underwater sensor also enables data visualisation and output to 3rd survey software in real-time, as well as being compatible with real-time data processing and export to 3rd party post-processing and GIS software.
